For the 2009 season, Hale Farm & Village has a full slate of educational, interpretive and special programming. Regular hours in which Hale is open to the general public run from late May through October. From February through December, Hale is open to educational groups for students Pre-K through high school, to participate in program encompassing history, math, science, social studies and more. Hale Farm & Village closes every January for regularly scheduled maintenance.

Summer 2009 Fun on the Farm and Youth Camp Programs 

Fun on the Farm Summer 2009

Calling all children ages 2 through 6!  Bring your favorite adult to Fun on the Farm this summer at Hale Farm & Village.  A craft, a story and a visit to the farm all in one hour at Northeast Ohio’s premier living history museum.   This weekly program offers a fun variety of topics to choose from.  Program times are 11:00 am and 1:00 pm on the dates listed below.  Adults admitted only when accompanied by a child!
 
Members of WRHS - $10/adult and children/free.
Non-members of WRHS - $10/adult and $5/ child.
Groups of 15 or more - $9/adult and $5/child

A Horse is a Horse, of Course
July 3
Meet two Percheron horses and learn how horses help on the farm.
 
Musical Kids

Let’s make some Music in the Valley with a variety of creative instruments. 
 
Pioneer Children

Experience the work and play of children who lived on the Ohio Frontier.
 
Say Cheese

Visit the cows and learn how to turn their milk into cheese. 
 
Clay Play

Watch our potter make something beautiful and useful from a lump of clay.

In the Dark

How did pioneers see in the dark? Our candle maker will shed some light on this subject.
 
Flock Talk

Learn about sheep and get wild and wooly with Hale Farm’s flock.
 
Garden Party

Explore our gardens, visit with the gardener and enjoy a party on the Village Green.

 

NEW! Summer 2009 Youth Camp Programs

Children ages 7 through 12 can touch, feel and get their hands on 19th-century Ohio history at Hale Farm & Village Youth Camps this summer.  Campers have a choice of four Tuesday sessions (see below) with each camp day running from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.  (We recommend that campers bring their own lunch.)  Each session is $40/camper or $140 for teh complete series of four sessions.  Reservations are required, and space is limited.  To make a reservation for one or all of these programs please call 330-666-3711 ext. 100. 

Pioneer Wilderness Adventure
June 16 or July 14
Pack your wagon, travel west and use a compass to locate your land.  When you arrive you'll need to survey your land and build your cabin.  What else will you need to survive? 

Fitness on the Farm
June 23 or July 21
Play hard! Work harder! At Hale Farm there are always farm chores to be done, just as there were 200 years ago.  After a day's work there's time to play! 

Crafty Kids
June 30 or July 28
Join the ranks of the Hale farm & Village artisans as an apprentice for the day.  Learn brick making, basketry, broom making, spinning and weaving -- the trades that shaped the economy 200 years ago.

Civil War Soldier
July 7 or August 4
Campers! You've been drafted!  Don your blue coat and march the day away with a battle weary Union drill sergeant.  Pitch a tent, set up camp, and learn about life during the Civil War.

Music in the Valley

July 11& 12
Saturday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm

Lend us your ears and join us for the 44th Annual Music in the Valley Celebration at Hale Farm & Village.  Presented in concert with Folknet, this musical experience delights your ears and relaxes the mind.  Bring a chair, bring your family and make a day of listening to music throughout the grounds at Hale Farm & Village. 

Regular admission applies and no reservations are necessary.

Carriages in the Park - at Hale Farm & Village 

July 25 & 26
Saturday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm

This special weekend when you visit Hale Farm & Village you will see an era before the automobile as Hale Farm & Village is pleased to host Carriages in the Park.  You will see and learn about 19th Century Carriages and get carried away during this unique weekend in the valley!  

Regular admission applies and no reservations are necessary.

Civil War Encampment

August 8 & 9
Saturday and Sunday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm

Listen to the Drums of August and see the invasion of Civil War re-enactors at Hale Farm & Village for this weekend only.  This is a unique opportunity to stroll among soldier tents, bump into Abraham Lincoln and even do some shopping for great historic items.  Daily, you and the family can experience a re-created Civil War battle, just yards away from your eyes.  From Fashion to Soldiers, this is a weekend you don’t want to miss.

Special 2-Day War Pass is available at a discounted rate. 

Antique and Classic Car Show

Sunday, August 23
10:00 am to 4:00 pm

Hale Farm & Village in partnership with the Antique Automobile Club of America, Northern Chapter, Ohio Region is pleased to present the Antique and Classic Car Show.  The main field is filled with cars ranging from the early 1900s to the 1980s.  New this year is an Auto Swap Meet.  (Special Admission Rates for this auto event.) There is an awards presentation near the end of the day, including a kids’ choice award!

Harvest Festival

October 10 & 11
Saturday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm

There is no better place to fall in love with Hale than at the Harvest Festival.  This is a great weekend to enjoy the beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley with your family; Hale Farm style.  Pumpkin carving, hay rides, giant hay piles, pumpkin painting, apple butter and apple cider are just a few of the unique fall experiences at the farm this weekend.

NEW! All Hale’s Eve

October 30
6:00 pm to 9:00 pm

A Hale Farm tradition returns with a Historic Halloween celebration in the Village.  Put on a costume and trick-or-treat right at the Farm. 

Admission is $10 per person and $5 for WRHS members.

Last Day of Summer/Public Season

October 31
Say goodbye to the last days of summer and fall at Hale Farm & Village until we open again for regular visitation in June 2010.

Farmhouse Suppers

Weekend evenings in September, October and November 2009 

The concept “Dinner and a Movie” is left behind when the “movie” comes to life before your eyes at this favorite Hale Farm & Village program.  Experience preparing food in a historic home at Hale Farm and then engage yourself in historic conversation and enjoy a truly unique dinner.

Yule Log Celebration

December 3
6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Toast the season with a glass of mulled cider and the story of the Yule Log at Hale Farm & Village.  Keep warm by our bonfire and sing carols by the Yule Log at this Hale Farm time-honored event.

Reservations required for this program and will be accepted in November 2009. 
Admission is $5 per person and FREE for WRHS members.


Lantern Tours 

December 4 - 5, 11 - 12, 18 – 23

A lantern lit trip to holidays past.  Make us your tradition as you visit Hale Farm & Village for our favorite holiday program.  This is the best way to see, hear and smell the holidays as experienced in the early 19th century.  

Reservations are required for this program and will be accepted in Fall of 2009.
