Irish American Archives
![]() This portrait is of May Hollinger, (1892-1918), great granddaughter of Daniel T. Shehan and Margerett Melagott who emigrated from County Kerry, Ireland in 1841. May had trained to be a teacher, but was tragically killed by a car as she stepped off the curb at the bottom of Cedar Hill. Begun in September of 1999, the Irish American Archives is a collecting initiative of the Archives-Library of the Western Reserve Historical Society. Mission: To collect, preserve and make available for research the papers, documents, photographs, and memorabilia of the Irish, and the records of Irish organizations and institutions in the greater Cleveland area. Scope: The Archives will document the histories of all persons of Irish ancestry, Northern and Southern, who immigrated to or were native to northeastern Ohio. Materials relating to politics, religion, culture, business, labor, education, fraternal organizations, and charities, and individual life experiences are sought.
